On the way to the first climate-neutral bicycle event in Europe!
The DEW21 E-BIKE Festival presented by SHIMANO 2020 in Dortmund – the center of e-mobility in North Rhine-Westphalia and, at the same time, committed to climate protection with the campaign, “Climate is a home game” – what could be more natural than viewing and holding the event in the light of climate neutrality?
The organizers of the PLAN B Festival from Munich focused on this ambitious goal from the beginning. This idea was then implemented by bringing experts from the local energy agency, EnergieAgentur.NRW, on board to then be able to identify and put in place the first climate-friendly measures in the 2016 premiere. As early as 1912, the EnergieAgentur.NRW agency organized a major sporting event in a climate-neutral manner when the Siegerländer Firmenlauf, the largest corporate running event in Germany, was held.
Shifting travel from cars to bicycles constitutes an important element in the climate protection plan of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The goal is to continue to drive this trend. Based on the state government’s action plan to promote short-distance mobility, the plan aims to have only a fourth of travel take place by car in the long term compared to the present day situation.
To this end, the plan aims to increase bicycling and walking – particularly for short distances – along with the use of public transport.
The government is initiating “climate-friendly” measure in Dortmund in 2016 to already begin sensitizing participants, spectators, companies, and institutions.
At an event with an attendance of around 30.000, the real focus is based on the measures from mobility, catering, waste and water as well as communication and logistics.
The GREEN MUSIC INITIATIVE rewarded our DEW21 E-BIKE Festival presented by SHIMANO 2018 in Dortmund for its climate-friendly actions and initiatives.
